Madonna has resumed work on her self-directed biopic, which was delayed due to her successful Celebration tour. The pop icon recently shared on Instagram that she is working on the script again, with the previously untitled film now named "Who's That Girl." This title is a nod to her 1987 comedy film and its chart-topping soundtrack single. Julia Garner, known for her roles in "Inventing Anna" and "Ozark," is set to portray Madonna in the movie, which will explore her early life and rise to fame. The film's screenplay, initially developed with Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody under the working title "Little Sparrow," has been reworked by Madonna and Erin Cressida Wilson.

The biopic aims to chronicle Madonna's journey as an artist navigating the male-dominated music industry, capturing her struggles and successes. Key moments intended for the film include her rise in New York City, the creation of iconic songs like "Like a Prayer," her role in "Evita," and her involvement with the Harlem ballroom scene, which influenced her hit "Vogue." Garner's casting was confirmed before the project was postponed in early 2023, and Julia Fox has expressed interest in playing Madonna's friend Debi Mazar. Madonna's commitment to the film remains, despite her current focus on touring.
