Reshma Kewalramani is the President and CEO of Vertex Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology company based in Boston, Massachusetts. She is a highly experienced medical doctor, clinician, researcher, and nephrologist who has dedicated her career to improving the lives of patients. She has spent more than 15 years working on the development of new medicines. During her time at Vertex, the company has pioneered groundbreaking medical treatments for cystic fibrosis.

Dr. Kewalramani was born in Bombay, India, and immigrated with her family to the United States when she was 11 years old. She attended Boston University, where she graduated summa cum laude from the seven-year liberal arts/medical education program. She completed her internship and residency at several Massachusetts General Brigham medical centers, including serving as a resident physician at Massachusetts General Hospital. She then graduated from the general management program at Harvard Business School in 2015.

Dr. Kewalramani was also a physician at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She then entered the biopharmaceutical sector and worked for Amgen, one of the world's largest independent biotechnology companies, for more than twelve years. While there, she held a variety of roles across research and development, including as Vice President of Global Clinical Development, Nephrology & Metabolic Therapeutic Area and Vice President of U.S. Medical Organization.

Dr. Kewalramani joined Vertex in 2017 and assumed the roles of President and CEO on April 1, 2020. She is also a member of the Vertex board of directors. Under her leadership as CEO, Vertex was ranked #2 on The Commonwealth Institute’s Top Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts in 2021.

Dr. Kewalramani shows her support for the next generation of scientists as a member of the board of directors of the Biomedical Science Careers Program, an organization dedicated to supporting underrepresented students in pursuing a career in STEM. She is also a member of RIZE Massachusetts, a nonprofit foundation focused on ending the opioid epidemic.

Throughout her impressive career, Dr. Kewalramani has earned several accolades, including the American College of Physicians Associates Council Award, the American Medical Women's Association Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement Citation, and the Harvard Medical School Excellence in Teaching Award.
