While her parents encouraged her to pursue law school, Marcelo charted her own path. Despite being accepted into Harvard Law School, she deferred, opting instead for a role in litigation consulting. It was here that she discovered her true calling lay in the intersection of technology and business, leading her to embark on a transformative journey.

In 1995, Marcelo earned acceptance into Harvard Business School for a combined JD/MBA program. Her unique situation, balancing family responsibilities with rigorous academic pursuits, set her apart. Graduating magna cum laude in economics from Mt. Holyoke College and receiving both her MBA and JD with honors and the Dean's Award from Harvard University, Marcelo's dedication and intellect shone brightly.

In 2006, Marcelo's entrepreneurial spirit found a nurturing home at Matrix Partners, where she spent six months as an entrepreneur-in-residence. This pivotal period provided her with the mentorship and environment she needed to cultivate her startup ideas.

Out of her own challenges as a working mother, Care.com was born in 2006. It stands as the largest online marketplace for child, pet, and geriatric care, connecting over 35 million users across 20 countries. Marcelo's visionary leadership guided the company through an IPO, making her one of 22 women to start and oversee such a milestone.

Her accolades are a testament to her impact. Named one of the top 40 entrepreneurs under 40 by the Boston Business Journal (2009) and recognized as one of the 10 most powerful women entrepreneurs by Fortune Magazine (2009), Marcelo's influence reverberates through the tech community. Additionally, she received the prestigious Filipino Heritage Award, or Pamana ng Pilipino, in 2014 from President Benigno Aquino III for her professional excellence.
