Idina Menzel is set to make her return to Broadway in 2025 with the new musical Redwood. Kate Diaz provides the music for Redwood, which was co-conceived by Menzel and Tina Landau, who also authored the book and directed the performance. The musical is scheduled to premiere at San Diego’s La Jolla Playhouse in February 2025. Redwood follows the journey of Jesse, a grieving mother played by Menzel, who travels across the country seeking solace in the Northern California woods. This marks Menzel's first Broadway appearance since If/Then, which ran from March 2014 to March 2015.

Famous for creating beloved characters like Maureen in Rent, Elphaba in Wicked, and Elsa in Frozen, Menzel emphasized her joy at coming back to Broadway with a project that was near and dear to her heart. She described Redwood as a musical that has been dear to her for 15 years since its inception with Landau. Producing the musical are Menzel's Loudmouth Media, Caroline Kaplan, and Eva Price. Prior to its Broadway debut, Menzel plans to embark on a North American tour, performing songs from the musical's score.
