Kulczyk and her brother Sebastian inherited a fortune from their father Jan, who died suddenly in 2015 from complications of minor heart surgery. They divided the estate in 2018, with Dominika getting the majority of the cash from the family's 2016 sale of its SAB Miller stake. She also bet a large portion of her fortune on a renewable energy outfit, Polenergia SA – a company that her brother wanted to discard.

Shares of the publicly traded independent electricity producer, which was failing prior to Kulczyk’s investments, are up roughly fourfold since her gamble, giving it a market cap of $1.2 billion. Kulczyk now chairs its supervisory board.

Prior to becoming the majority shareholder of Polenergia SA, and the chair of its supervisory board, Kulczyk was president of the Polish branch of Green Cross International. She was the vice president of the Polish Olympic Committee from 2013 to 2016 and is now an adviser to their president.

Kulczyk has authored more than 60 documentaries produced along with CNN International and polish television channel TVN that tackle the problems of global discrimination and injustice. In 2018, she was awarded with the Polish Order of the Smile (Order Uśmiechu) for the outstanding contribution towards working with children.
