Cynthia Smith, DVM
President & CEO, National Marine Mammal Foundation

Cynthia Smith serves as the President and CEO of the National Marine Mammal Foundation (NMMF), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in San Diego, California. Smith has led the organization since 2010 and served as chief medical officer for more than a decade. She continues to provide her veterinary expertise for high-priority marine mammal projects, specifically those focused on at-risk, threatened, and critically endangered cetaceans (dolphins, porpoises, and whales). She has more than 25 years of veterinary and research experience, resulting in over 80 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts.

Smith's nonprofit team provides veterinary, research, and animal care support to the US Navy’s Marine Mammal Program right here in San Diego. She contributed as a lead veterinarian for NOAA’s Natural Resource Damage Assessment of the Deepwater Horizon (DWH) oil spill, and she continues to study the long-term impacts of oil exposure on dolphins in the Gulf of Mexico. Smith served as the General Program Manager for the Consortium of Vaquita Conservation, Recovery, and Protection (VaquitaCPR), an international effort aimed at rescuing the endangered vaquita porpoise from extinction. She co-founded JANE: Justice & Action Network for the Earth, which was selected as a top 100 finalist for the MacArthur Foundation’s 100 & Change Competition and is part of the Bold Solutions Network. Most recently, Smith helped launch the NMMF’s Operation GRACE: Global Rescue of At-Risk Cetaceans and Ecosystems, with conservation projects in North America, South America, Africa, and the Middle East.

Smith received a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Tufts University. She completed executive education at Harvard Business School, Harvard Kennedy School, and Berkeley Haas School of Business. In 2019, she was named a Red Bull Hero of the Year for her work in conservation. In 2022, she was named a Woman of the Year finalist by San Diego Magazine and a Nonprofit Citizenship Award finalist by the San Diego Business Journal. In 2023, she was elected to the Tufts University Board of Trustees. Smith enjoys giving back locally and globally through national and international expert advisory groups. She currently lives in San Diego with her husband, Scott. They have two children, Addy and Mike, and a rescued hound dog, Boone. 


Reema Poddar
President & CEO of Diagnostic Imaging & Digital Pathology Informatics Business, Philips

Reema Poddar is recognized as a bold technology and business transformative leader, strategist, and innovative executioner. Currently, she serves as the President and CEO of the Global Diagnostic and Pathway informatics business at Philips. Poddar has 29 years of experience in successfully, defining, implementing, transforming, delivering, and growing commercially viable digital portfolio offerings. Fueled by an unwavering customer focus, she is considered an expert in driving digital innovation and bridging the gap between existing complex, legacy products, technology ecosystems, and emerging cloud and modern technologies. She has delivered business results valued in multi-billions across industries.

Having previously held the positions as chief product and technology officer at Teradata, EVP of global software and solutions at GE, and independent board of directors of public and private companies, Poddar has honed her skills as both a result-driven business leader and an experienced technologist. She is a respected change agent who brings people along to deliver results by utilizing deep experience and lessons learned in organizational and operational practices, commercial product delivery, go-to-market strategies, driving innovative customer-centric solutions, and outperforming competition.

Poddar is a passionate leader who empowers teams to take risks, fail fast, and learn. She dedicates a lot of her time focusing and sharing her lessons learnt helping women in all areas of technology to reach their potential and succeed in work life and is very active in public speaking STEM and Women in Technology forums. She is always drawn to a challenging environment or, where a disruptive approach could deliver exceptional purpose-driven business growth and customer satisfaction. Poddar holds dual Master's degrees in Computer Science and Applications and Physics.


Tonya Jackman Hampton
Chief Human Resources Officer, UC San Diego Health 

Tonya Jackman Hampton is an Executive and Chief Human Resources Officer for UC San Diego. She is a dynamic, visionary, and strategic leader, as well as an award-winning executive. In 2024, Hampton was recognized as a Top Chief People Officer by Becker Hospital. In 2023, she was recognized by the Minneapolis St. Paul Journal as a Women in Business Career Achievement Honoree and a Top Black Professional. 

She has a proven track record with nearly 30 years of experience effectively leading and cultivating organizations or cultures to be inclusive and engaging. She has led Fortune 500 companies and nonprofit organizations. She brings enthusiasm to every endeavor inside and outside of organizations she's been a part of. She consistently engages to help organizations, leaders, and students understand and execute key human resources and talent management required to drive effective business performance. As a healthcare HR executive and among many other efforts, she has led the transformation of the human resource function and practices across the enterprises to a strategic level, ensuring the function and team members within the entire organization are seen as critical to providing healthcare to the community. 

Hampton is a recently published author of the book, The Myth of Fearless Leadership: Exposing a New Path Beyond Fight, Flight and Freeze, expected to be released in the summer of 2024.


Christine Moore
Executive Director, External Affairs, AT&T

Christine Moore serves as AT&T Executive Director of External Affairs in San Diego and Imperial Counties, managing relationships with local and regional governments, advocating on public policy issues, building community partnerships, and overseeing corporate philanthropic contributions. 

Moore has worked for elected officials on both sides of the aisle at the city, county, and state levels and has also served on the boards of several California-based nonprofit organizations. She has also previously chaired the Chula Vista Cultural Arts Commission and the South County EDC Public Policy Committee, and she fundraised to improve the quality of life for San Diego’s at-risk and underserved communities.

Moore earned an undergraduate degree in journalism from Southwestern College. She has been recognized for her efforts by President Barack Obama, the US Congress, the California State Senate and Assembly, the County of San Diego, the Cities of San Diego, Chula Vista, and National City, and by the Society of Professional Journalists and the San Diego Press Club for her work. She has earned the California State Assembly Women’s Caucus Woman of the Year award by Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez, Businesswoman of the Year by the San Diego Regional East County Chamber of Commerce, and SCEDC’s Marilyn Lassman Lifetime Achievement Award. Moore is married with three children.


Kelly Farrell
Executive Director of Business Operations, Oncology Research & La Jolla Affairs Site Lead, Pfizer

Kelly Farrell is the Executive Director of Business Operations in Oncology Research and La Jolla Affairs Site Lead of Pfizer. Pfizer applies science and their global resources to bring therapies to people that extend and significantly improve their lives. They strive to set the standard for quality, safety, and value in the discovery, development, and manufacture of healthcare products, including innovative medicines and vaccines. 

Farrell dynamic systems thinker with 20 years of experience leading operations of large, diverse public and private organizations, including oversight of programmatic and administrative functions. Farrell is skilled in the tactical execution of daily operations to ensure productivity and efficiency, as well as long-term strategic planning. She has broad expertise in internal and external communications, legislative advocacy, crisis management, human resources, and legal issues. 

Before joining Pfizer, Farrell was a chief of staff at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Before that, she was a legislative affairs specialist at NASA. Earlier in her career, she worked with DLA Piper as an attorney. Farrell graduated from Harvard Law School with a JD and from Duke University with an undergraduate degree in political science.


Teri Fenner
VP, AECOM

With over 30 years of professional experience, Teri Fenner currently serves as the Vice President for AECOM, the world’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm, delivering professional services throughout the project lifecycle – from advisory, planning, design, and engineering to program and construction management. Fenner guides the San Diego office of AECOM, over 100 people with skills in civil engineering, geotechnical services, landscape architecture, planning, public outreach, and the full suite of environmental services. 

Fenner brings a wealth of expertise in full-service environmental compliance – from preliminary opportunities and constraints planning through the preparation of environmental documents to satisfy NEPA and CEQA requirements to permitting and concluding with permit and agency compliance monitoring during construction. Her skill set includes strong and proactive client account management; knowledge of pertinent laws and regulations; and excellent professional relationships with agency staff and numerous jurisdictions in the San Diego region. She has particular experience with beach nourishment projects and managing complex joint CEQA/NEPA documents for controversial projects, such as base closures, major transportation corridors, and regionally important coastal projects.

Fenner earned an MA in geography from San Diego State University and an undergraduate degree in political science and urban studies and planning from UC San Diego.


Sharon Henry
CEO of Integrated Delivery | Southern California, Envision Healthcare

Sharon Henry is the CEO of Integrated Delivery, Southern California, for Envision Healthcare. With decades of experience in medical service delivery, M&A, and start-ups, she is responsible for the integrated delivery of EmCare, American Medical Response (AMR), and Evolution Health in Southern California. She is widely known for her innovative and results-oriented approaches to medical delivery, including mobile integrated health, which has proven to provide reduced cost, better care, and an enhanced patient experience. She served on the Board of the Wireless Life Sciences Alliance and has implemented and tested wireless monitoring devices in several population health settings to help drive improved patient experience and reduced cost.

Henry is responsible for enterprise growth for the southern California operations of EmCare, the nation's leading provider of outsourced physician services in the areas of emergency and hospital medicine, anesthesia, radiology, and acute surgery; for American Medical Response, the nation's largest provider of ambulance service; and for Evolution Health, the leading post-acute provider that provides population health solutions that combines the logistical strength of AMR with the clinical expertise of EmCare. Envision Healthcare is pioneering the delivery of care to millions of patients nationwide through its three business units – EmCare, AMR, and Evolution Health.

Earlier in her career, Henry served as CEO at Hartson Medical Services. From there, she went on to BayStar Medical Services, before eventually rising to VP of innovation at American Medical Response, her most recent position before joining Envision Healthcare. Henry graduated from UC Irvine with an MBA.


Lauren Miralle
President/CEO - The Miralle Agency, Farmers Insurance Group of Companies

Lauren Miralle is the President and CEO of The Miralle Agency of Farmers Insurance Group of Companies. Miralle has been in the insurance industry since 2001. She’s licensed in both Property & Casualty and Life/Health/Disability. Through the years, she has become an expert in commercial insurance, specifically in the area of insuring condominiums and planned unit development associations.

The Miralle Agency is a full-service insurance agency specializing in all areas of commercial and personal lines insurance. With over 15 years of industry experience, Miralle is a Championship and Topper Club award recipient within the Farmers Insurance Group organization. She has access to nearly all admitted and excess line carriers. Her team is comprised of licensed professionals who make good, prompt service their top priority. 

Previously, Miralle was a commercial insurance specialist at Inskeep & Associates. She earned an undergraduate degree in international studies from the University of Arizona.


Pooja Joshi
Head - Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Qualcomm Inc.

As the head of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at Qualcomm since 2023, Pooja Joshi is committed to embedding equity into the full employee lifecycle - from recruitment and talent management to career progression and retention. She brings more than 20+ years of HR experience to this role, having previously served as an HR Business Partner and in leadership positions across communities of practice including Talent Management, Talent Acquisition, and Employee Relations.

Her scope at Qualcomm includes defining the company’s DEI strategy, leading a global team to deliver on this roadmap across 30+ countries, and working closely with an ecosystem of allies to turn vision into action and results. She regularly interfaces with officers of the company and the Board of Directors, working passionately to build relationships, influence and advise, and drive implementation of people-focused business strategies.

Throughout her career, which prior to Qualcomm included leadership roles at AIG and Novartis, Pooja has been focused on using data-driven insights to solve organizational challenges and enhance employee experiences. She thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where she can help build vibrant teams and contribute to the success of all.


Archana Nirwan
Chief Human Resources Officer, Cambium Networks

Archana Nirwan is the Chief Human Resources Officer of Cambium Networks. She first joined the company in 2023. Cambium Networks enables service providers, enterprises, industrial organizations, and governments to deliver exceptional digital experiences and device connectivity with compelling economics. Nirwan is responsible for managing people practices, HR processes, and change management. In this role, she works closely with employees and business leaders to enable employee engagement and align people and culture to support business strategy and Cambium Core Values.

A highly experienced HR professional with more than 20 years of global experience, Nirwan has a long track record in scaling up and expanding engineering-led organizations. Her previous experience at Qualcomm, Cadence Design Systems, and Fidelity Investments has proven her ability to drive organizational change and talent strategies for high-tech companies with a global focus and distributed teams. She brings a wide range of core HR skills in leading strategic activities, such as talent management, performance management, M&A, organizational design, change management, and workforce planning.

Nirwan holds an MBA from Pune University with a focus on human resources and organizational behavior and a BA in economics from Nowrosjee Wadia College, Pune.


Lysa Cano
VP of Ophthalmology, McKesson Specialty Health

Lysa Cano is the Vice President of Ophthalmology at McKesson Specialty Health. She first joined the company in 2013 as a regional business development executive. The McKesson Corporation is a diversified healthcare services leader dedicated to advancing health outcomes for patients. Their teams partner with biopharma companies, care providers, pharmacies, manufacturers, governments, and others to deliver insights, products, and services to help make quality care more accessible and affordable.

Cano is a dynamic leader with vast experience and success in the healthcare distribution arena. Early in her career, she learned the value of teamwork and collaboration, leveraging her relationship-building skills to become an expert in her field while fostering a culture of accountability, trust, and communication among teams. Previously, Cano was a sponsored clinical services advisor at US Pharma Lab. Earlier in her career, she worked with Aramark Uniform Services as a territory healthcare account manager.

Cano earned an MPA in healthcare from California State University-Dominguez Hills and an undergraduate degree in business/corporate communications and public relations from Western Michigan University.


Karen O'Leonard
Head of Innovation, WTW

Karen O'Leonard is the Head of Innovation at WTW, leading global initiatives to support the company’s growth strategy. Her team fuels the organization’s innovation pipeline by incubating early-stage concepts through to development and commercialization while fostering a culture of experimentation. As part of this role, O’Leonard leads a cross-functional board to invest in new concepts, a committee she started in 2019.

O’Leonard has been bringing new solutions to market for more than two decades. Through her deep experience in product management, data, and analytics, she has successfully launched new software products and data-driven services to customers across the globe. Her first product launch was SIMON, a software program she developed while in grad school to enable companies to run their demand forecasting scenarios using conjoint data. Afterward, she spent over a decade in Silicon Valley, working in product development roles at Apple and Javasoft to launch new hardware and software solutions. She then joined two founders in starting a company that grew into a multi-million dollar business before selling it to Deloitte. Post-acquisition, O’Leonard served as Deloitte’s VP of Talent analytics, where she led a team in building an analytics platform and advisory service to help HR leaders harness their data for better decision-making.

O’Leonard holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Bucknell University and an MBA with a concentration in quantitative methods from Drexel University. She is a passionate supporter of environmental issues and women’s causes.


Lee Wills
Global Chief Diversity Officer, ASML

Lee Wills is the Global Chief Diversity Officer of ASML, an innovation leader in the global semiconductor industry. They make machines that chipmakers use to mass-produce microchips. Founded in 1984 in the Netherlands with just a handful of employees, they've now grown to over 40,000 employees, 143 nationalities, and more than 60 locations around the world.

Wills was promoted from US chief diversity officer in 2021. Now, she guides and counsels organizational leaders on the integration of diversity and inclusion into long-term operations. She leads ASML's Diversity & Inclusion strategy and collaborates with business leaders to embed diversity strategies into processes and practices.

She is a Board of Trustee member of the National University, is on the board of directors of the San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce, and is an advisory board member of the Elementary Institute of Science. She is a thought leader with a record of success in developing, implementing, and advancing people strategies at global organizations like Qualcomm, Intel, and Sony. Wills graduated from the University of Redlands with an undergraduate degree in business management.


Shelby Benson
VP, Program Quality & Impact, World Vision

Shelby Benson is the Vice President of Program Quality and Impact at World Vision, the largest child-focused private charity in the world. Their over 33,000 staff members working in nearly 100 countries have united with their incredible supporters to impact the lives of over 200 million vulnerable children by tackling the root causes of poverty. Through World Vision every 60 seconds a family gets water, a hungry child is fed and a family receives the tools to overcome poverty. 

Benson brings over 15 years of experience in managing and providing technical support to international health projects. She leads a team of program managers who supervise the implementation of a large and diverse portfolio of ongoing USG, foundation, and private donor-funded projects located in Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and South Asia. She also provides leadership in innovation, knowledge management, and strategy development for World Vision. Previously, as a program management officer at World Vision, she designed and managed a portfolio of OVC and HIV grants spanning Africa worth nearly $500 million, including Zambia’s flagship OVC programs, RAPIDS and STEPS OVC, which collectively reached over 1 million OVC.  

Before World Vision, Benson worked at Harvard University’s Research Program on Children and Global Adversity supporting research on child soldiers in Sierra Leone, and she led a research team to determine the self-identified needs of OVC in the slums of Pretoria, South Africa.

Benson graduated from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health with a Master of Science in Public Health, Global Health, and Population and from Texas Christian University with an undergraduate degree in chemistry.


Margaux Currie
Senior Director of Product Management, Cigna

Margaux Currie is a Senior Director of Product Management at Cigna. Cigna Healthcare is a health benefits provider that advocates for better health through every stage of life. Currie serves as the overall Pathwell Specialty and Pharmacy Strategy with 20 years of experience in product and strategy roles.

Before joining Cigna, Currie held product and strategy roles at Surescripts, including serving as the director of the overall eligibility and formulary business and leading the launch of Real-Time Prescription Benefit. Before entering healthcare, she served as an international strategy consultant at Booz & Company’s aerospace and defense practice, working and living all over the world.

Currie earned a Master's degree in Liberal Arts in Business Management Finance from Harvard University, an undergraduate degree in urban studies and affairs from the University of California, Berkeley, and an undergraduate degree in business administration and management from the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business.


Lada Rasochova
Founder & CEO, DERMALA Inc.

Lada Rasochova is the Founder and CEO of DERMALA Inc., a human microbiome company developing treatments for chronic skin diseases and conditions. DERMALA, Inc. is a pioneering consumer dermatology startup leveraging the power of the human microbiome and cutting-edge data analytics to develop innovative, patented, science-backed, and clinically validated solutions for a range of skin conditions.

Rasochova has been involved in the commercialization of biotech and pharma products for the past 20 years. She spent 15 years in the industry, where she held various leadership positions, including as the leader of Vaccine Technologies and director of new business development in Dowpharma, a biotech division of the Dow Chemical Company, Mycogen, a biotech startup (acquired by Dow Chemical), and the CEO of Jadus BioScience, an early stage diagnostic company. Rasochova is also the managing director of the Rady Venture Fund and serves as the founding executive director of the California Institute for Innovation and Development at UC San Diego and the founding director of StartR and mystartupXX accelerators, and she’s on boards of several companies, centers, and institutes, including the UC San Diego Center for Drug Discovery Innovation and the Qualcomm Institute.

Rasochova graduated from the University of California, San Diego’s Rady School of Management with an MBA in venture capital finance and technology commercialization, from Iowa State University with a PhD in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, and Virology, and from the Czech University of Life Sciences, Prague, Czech Republic with an MS and an undergraduate degree in genetics.


Helen Griffith
Executive Director, The Preuss School UC San Diego

Helen Griffith is the inaugural Executive Director of The Preuss School UC San Diego, a unique charter middle and high school for low-income students who strive to become the first in their families to graduate from college. With nearly 100 percent of their graduates going on to higher education, Preuss shapes more than minds, they shape futures. Most recently Griffith was the founding executive director and CEO of е3 Civic High, a public charter high school located in the San Diego Central Public Library.

Griffith has over 25 years of experience as an educator and principal, specializing in leadership development, school transformation, and creating equitable educational experiences for all scholars. Before opening e3 Civic High, Griffith served as dean of students at Crawford High School, vice principal at Lincoln High School, and founding principal of Millennial Tech Middle School. In recognition of her transformational work, Griffith has received numerous professional honors, including Outstanding Woman of the 39th Senate District in 2020, from President Pro Tem Toni Atkins; Outstanding Woman Leader in the field of Education, 79th District, by the California State Assemblymember, Shirley Weber in 2018; and Educator of the Year from the California League of Middle Schools in 2010. In addition, she was invited by Congresswoman Susan Davis to Washington DC to participate in the National Summit on Teacher Diversity sponsored by the US Department of Education in 2016. She was recently selected as a UC San Diego LEAD Fellow (Leaders for Equity Advancement and Diversity), a group tasked with advancing the university's Strategic Plan to create a more diverse and inclusive community, where all members are welcomed, respected, valued, and celebrated.  

Griffith earned a Bachelor's degree in Communication from UC San Diego, as well as a Master's degree in Educational Technology and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from San Diego State University. She is the only educator to have opened three new schools in the County of San Diego.


Katharina Thinnes
Acting CEO, Katharina Thinnes Real Estate Group 

Katharina Thinnes is the Acting CEO of Katharina Thinnes Real Estate Group. She is also a founding partner of Compass,  hand-selected to embark on the journey of establishing and shaping a brand within the dynamic real estate marketplace. From this onset, she played a pivotal role in laying the foundation for Compass's presence in San Diego, working closely with company leadership to provide feedback in executing strategic initiatives that would propel us to the forefront of the industry.

As the Compass leader within the Katharina Thinnes Real Estate Group team, Thinnes fulfills CEO-level duties, leveraging extensive experience to steer strategic decision-making. Possessing analytical skills and strategic vision, she sets organizational direction, fosters innovation, and ensures financial sustainability. With a background in public relations and advertising, she implement PR and marketing campaigns to enhance brand and listing presence for listings. Under her leadership, sales have reached an impressive $350 million.

Thinnes previously worked as a licensed real estate professional for Keller Williams Realty, Inc. and Pacific Sotheby`s International Realty, as well as an estate marketing specialist and director of the Elegant Homes Divison for Real Living Lifestyles formerly Windermere Exclusive Properties. Thinnes earned an undergraduate degree in public relations and advertising from Idaho State University.


Deepti Kurup
VP, Senior Security Product Owner CIAM, M&T Bank

Deepti Kurup is the Vice President of Senior Security Product Owner CIAM of M&T Bank, a multi-state community-focused bank serving New York, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Connecticut, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington DC. 

Kurup has worked in multiple roles across cybersecurity and has been successful in integrating hundreds of applications with multiple SSO solutions, managing critical core infrastructure components, defining tactical and strategic roadmaps for products and processes, and working with some amazing individuals through all of it. 

Kurup started at M&T Bank in a VP role in 2021. Before that, she was a vice president at Bank of America, where she served for over nine years. Kurup graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business with an MBA and from Rajiv Gandhi Prodyogiki Vishwavidyalaya with an undergraduate degree in electronics engineering.


Sharon Carmichael
VP, Design, ServiceNow

Sharon Carmichael is a seasoned VP of Design at ServiceNow with a wealth of experience managing in-house design and research teams. ServiceNow offers a  cloud-based platform and solutions that help digitize and unify organizations. 

As head of NowX and the Creator, Finance, and Supply Chain Workflow Experience teams, Carmichael leads over 40 product designers focused on delivering excellent admin and developer tools and new product experiences. With her customer-centric approach, she emphasizes the importance of solving intricate customer problems and helps customers customize and configure better experiences. 

Carmichael joined ServiceNow in 2018 as a director of product design to lead a team of talented designers distributed worldwide. Before joining ServiceNow, she was a senior manager leading design for the Intuit QuickBooks & TurboTax Self-Employed Ecosystem. With experience managing multiple in-house design and research teams for mid-to-large-sized companies, she loves building and coaching innovative, cohesive design teams and solving intricate customer problems. Carmichael graduated from UCLA with an MLIS and from The University of Virginia with an undergraduate degree in politics, history, English, and studio art.

Laura MacNeel

Laura MacNeel joined Aya Healthcare in January 2016 as its first in-house attorney. Sara Browne
Founder & President, Specialists in Global Health

Sara Browne is the Founder and President of Specialists of Global Health, a nonprofit group whose mission is to support medical specialist education globally and promote the development and adoption of problem-solving mobile technologies.

Browne currently conducts translational research and clinical trials to analyze and support patient medication adherence and promote medication literacy in the treatment of HIV/AIDS, TB, and chronic diseases. She seeks to provide new paradigms of healthcare delivery, especially in the arena of patient self-management with the use of novel mobile health (mHealth) technologies. In collaboration with Proteus Digital Health, who have developed ingestible event markers that can capture oral ingestion medication, Browne is investigating the efficacy of mHealth sensor technology to monitor the treatment of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. She is an Alliance Healthcare Foundation Innovation Award recipient for this work.

Browne received her undergraduate education at the University of Cape Town, RSA, and her medical degree from the Oxford University School of Medicine. She has a Master of Public Health from the Harvard University School of Public Health, where she was a Fulbright Scholar. She completed her license in the United Kingdom at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, UK. She did her residency in Internal Medicine at Stanford University Medical Center, where subsequently completed a Clinical Pharmacology Fellowship at Stanford University and an Infectious Diseases Fellowship at UCSD.

Jessica Newmyer
Executive Director, American Heart Association

Jessica Newmyer is the Executive Director of the American Heart Association, a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. It is dedicated to ensuring equitable health in all communities. Through collaboration with numerous organizations, and powered by millions of volunteers, they fund innovative research, advocate for the public’s health, and share lifesaving resources. 

Newmyer started at the American Heart Association in 2017 as a senior director of community impact. She was promoted to Western States community impact consultant in 2019, and she was appointed to her current role in 2021. 

Before joining the American Heart Association, Newmyer was a deputy director of the health and human services agency at the County of San Diego. Before that, she was a program manager for independent living skills at San Diego Youth Services. Earlier in her career, she worked with the YMCA of San Diego County as a case manager, independent living skills. Newmyer studied social work at San Diego State University. 


Laura Owen

Laura Owen is the Executive Director at the Center for Equity and Postsecondary Attainment at San Diego State University. 

A prior urban school counselor and district counseling supervisor, Owen is a passionate advocate for closing college opportunity gaps. Diana Hannasch-Haag

Debbie Beyer

Debbie Beyer is the Founder and Executive Director of Literacy First Charter Schools (LFCS), now serving almost 2200 students and families across five separate school sites for K-12 grades. Her leadership at LFCS has resulted in outstanding test scores and significant community engagement. Under Beyer’s leadership, LFCS has undertaken charitable projects such as building a school, a water project, and a fish hatchery in Ecuador's central region. The school has also raised funds to support other charter schools facing natural disasters, most recently aiding victims of the Maui fire.

Beyer has experience in both public and private school classrooms, developing effective bilingual programs and curricula. She has worked as a teacher in elementary and high schools in New Mexico and the San Diego area. Beyer developed a homeschooling program in the 80s called Doing Education Better (DEBS) and has consulted on the development of several charter schools. She is the founder of Literacy First Charter School, which has been serving families in East San Diego County for over 23 years. Additionally, Beyer has served on several nonprofit boards.

Beyer has served as the director for San Diego and Imperial Counties for Concerned Women for America, as well as serving on its National Board of Directors. She was a founding member of College Area Pregnancy Services, addressing the needs of women in crisis pregnancies. Beyer has also contributed internationally, conducting teacher training and program development in Mexico, Central America, and Ecuador, focusing on empowering local communities. Emily Schell
Executive Director, California Global Education Project 

Emily Schell is the Executive Director of the California Global Education Project, one of nine discipline-specific networks that comprise the California Subject Matter Project. She leads the statewide office at the University of San Diego in the Jacobs Institute for Innovation in Education at the School of Leadership and Educational Sciences. 

Schell is a former elementary and secondary teacher and principal, as well as a district Social Studies Resource Teacher at San Diego Unified; K-12 History-Social Science Coordinator at the San Diego County Office of Education; liaison at the National Geographic Education Foundation; and preservice instructor at the San Diego State University’s School of Teacher Education. She serves on the Executive Committee of the California Environmental Literacy Initiative and the Steering Committee for the Climate Change and Environmental Justice Project, and she leads the California Global Education Network. Tracy Dixon-Salazar
Executive Director, Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS) Foundation

Dixon-Salazar is a neuroscientist, geneticist, patient advocate, and Executive Director of the LGS Foundation. She did her PhD and postdoctoral work at UC San Diego, where she studied the mechanisms of brain development and synaptic plasticity, identified genetic causes of rare diseases in children, and researched precision therapeutics in stem cell and animal models of pediatric brain disease. 

Her desire to get her PhD was inspired by her daughter, who developed uncontrolled epilepsy at the age of 2, which then evolved into the rare disease Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS) by the age of five. During her research tenure, and after 16 years of watching daily, unrelenting seizures in her child, she uncovered the genetic driver of her daughter’s illness and identified a novel precision therapy that improved her child's life.

Dixon-Salazar has nearly 30 years of nonprofit leadership and advocacy experience, where she emphasizes the importance of targeting both the causes and symptoms of disease, spearheads efforts to make genomic sequencing available and understandable to patients and families, communicates the individual and collective patient experience to professionals, and seeks to reshape the future of medicine so others in rare disease may go further, faster.


Char Ekoniak

She is also a published author, having recently published the fiction novel "CodeY".  She also co-founded Epiphany! an event fostering community and growth among professionals that raises funds for sex-trafficked victims.

Selbo thrives as an individual contributor and left her previous leadership role to pursue an enterprise sales role with Oracle's most strategic customers helping other marketing leaders evangelize the way they go to market. Those who know her will tell you her passion runs deep, and her energy is contagious. In her spare time, she's an investor and advisor in several consumer product goods and SaaS-based companies. She is also devoted to women's empowerment and supporting the VP of training and development at the Junior League of San Diego. Selbo was at the forefront of evolving the JLSD's training curriculum and building a network of partnerships with local businesses, executives, and coaches to further expand on JLSD's mission to empower, develop, and promote women's civic leadership in the Greater San Diego community. Ana Padilla

Ana Padilla is a Vice President at Wells Fargo serving as a Senior Business Growth Strategy Consultant for the Home Lending Diverse Segments group. Acting as a diverse segment subject matter expert in this role, Padilla works through internal and external partnerships and strategic alliances to advance homeownership, serving diverse customers and underserved communities. She is responsible for a disciplined approach to developing and executing strategies focused on helping households successfully achieve and sustain the dream of homeownership.

Padilla has over 20 years of combined experience in sales, including B2B, B2C, business development, marketing, public relations, and consulting. Before her current role, she was a home mortgage consultant serving an array of clients across the diversity and economic spectrum. She is passionate about empowering others through homeownership, especially in diverse communities.

As a philanthropist and community advocate, Padilla serves currently as the marketing director for the NAHREP San Diego Chapter, is part of the AREAA Corporate Advisory Council, and has been nominated for the San Diego Reinvestment Task Force (RTF) as an Alternate Commissioner. Padilla is a San Diego State University alum, holding an undergraduate degree in international business with a triple emphasis in marketing, Spanish, and Latin America.


Ann Chaplin
General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, Qualcomm

Ann Chaplin is the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Qualcomm Incorporated. In this role, Chaplin serves as a member of the executive leadership team with global responsibility for all Legal operations and functions. She has broad experience across the legal, technology, and business spectrum, as well as litigation and transactional matters, intellectual property law and management, corporate law, and governance. Most recently, she has served as corporate secretary and deputy general counsel for General Motors (GM).

While at GM, Chaplin assisted in the overall management of the legal department, overseeing corporate governance, advising on product and technology transformation initiatives, managing the interface with the board of directors, leading the securities team, and advising on ESG initiatives. She directly managed many areas across GM’s legal operations at various times, including the litigation of thousands of cases ranging from class actions to complex product litigation, antitrust, IP, securities, and multidistrict matters. She also resolved complex regulatory issues and investigations; managed the IP portfolio, including patent, trademark, copyright filings and maintenance, and trade secret protection; and served as chief compliance officer for North America while providing oversight for compliance functions worldwide. Additionally, Chaplin led the legal team responsible for M&A and strategic transactions and supported global supply chain and purchasing operations, as well as employment and labor matters.

Before GM, Chaplin was a partner at Fish & Richardson, where she managed the firm’s litigation practice group and focused on patent, trade secret, trademark, and copyright litigation. She was a member of the firm’s management committee and led its Minneapolis office. She earned her JD from Harvard Law School and her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis. Chaplin is admitted to practice in Minnesota and registered in-house counsel in California.


Lisa Marie Knight

Lisa Marie Knight is a passionate leader, advisor, and mentor at Engage Youth Co., a creative agency in North County, San Diego, California, since 2018. Knight has spent the last over 20 years managing and redefining processes and procedures, working with a multitude of different types and levels of professionals. Knight bridges the space between the execution of strategy and business operations by aligning and overseeing the managed research and creative campaigns by maintaining a foundation for scale and growth. In addition to her passion for mentoring and developing strong leaders, she emphasizes high-quality collaboration company-wide. She ensures all aspects of customer service care, project and productivity funnel improvements, payer operations, and contracting services by creating a smooth organizational operating rhythm.

A tenured professional, Knight has managed teams for previous clients, such as Adobe, Constellation Brands, and Spartan, as well as for clients in the TV_Y television program space, youth esports, youth-focused mental health, GenZ political campaigns to get out the vote, education, and nonprofits for the protection of youth social engagement. Her US and international team created a cause campaign, where Engage Youth Co. started from scratch with brand identity creation, strategy, and implementation to create awareness and tools for youth digital safety. Another example of managing teams across different time zones is in the science and education arena, where Engage Youth Co. launched the client's social education channel with a video production that includes experiments that wow and excite youth! These great campaigns were executed with a company culture that includes enthusiasm for the process and a focus on high-quality client experiences.

Knight graduated from Touro University, in a COAMFTE-accredited program, with a double Master's degree, summa cum laude, in December 2022. She is adding the title, in addition to her title of COO as an associate therapist. Knight believes you are never too old to learn and plans on utilizing her new title to enhance youth mentorship programs, as well as continue cultivating and leading Engage Youth Co.’s collaborative local and international working environments.

Morgan Reno currently represents landlords on 3 million square feet of Class A and B offices in Downtown and Central San Diego. Some of her key landlord clients include Lebeau Realty, UBS, Casey Brown Company, Westbrook Partners, DivcoWest, Manchester Financial Group, Highbrook Partners, Ocean West, Cypress Office Properties, HP Investors, and more. Reno also represents multiple corporate tenant accounts throughout San Diego, including Deloitte, Bank of America, PAR Technology Corporation, and AARP.

As the daughter of the largest locally-owned general contractor in San Diego, Reno was fortunate to grow up on her father’s job sites, including DiamondView Tower and Kilroy Center Del Mar, which is, where her affinity for office and biotech projects began. Shiloh Swanson is a Vice President and Director of Strategy, Sales, and Business Development for Stantec’s Water Business Line. Swanson has 30 years of business development, sales, and marketing experience. She joined Stantec in 2019 after managing and/or leading major campaigns for most of ENR’s Top 10 Engineering firms, including Stantec (formerly MWH), AECOM, URS, Jacobs/CH2MHill, CDM, HDR, TetraTech, Black & Veatch, and Brown and Caldwell.

Over the last decade, Swanson has managed and led strategic growth strategies and major business-changing campaigns, and she coached interview teams on over $1 billion in contracted wins and personally holds a 90% win rate in the last 24 months. She is a Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) Fellow and a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM), and she regularly provides training on various aspects of sales, business development, and marketing for SMPS.
